Recruit12 Construction has a fantastic opportunity for a Design Manager to join a well-established family-run construction company, that specialise in the creation of high-quality turnkey facilities in partnership with some of the UK’s leading developers, occupiers, retailers, and logistics businesses.

The role is to deliver all aspects of Design Management on a project(s) and contribute design management expertise on tenders. 

As a Design Manager your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Carrying out drawing reviews and issuing comments 
  • Issuing and closing out any Requests for Information that arise 
  • Chairing design team meetings and leading the process with the consultants and subcontract designers 
  • Submitting Design information to the client team 
  • Ensuring BREEAM compliance were required on projects 
  • Coordinating the submission of information to satisfy all planning conditions is discharged 
  • Leading design review workshops with the client to ensure understanding 
  • Carrying out technical reviews of proposed works 
  • Coordinating the submission of information to satisfy Building Control compliance 
  • Managing the design and procurement schedule and issuing information release schedules 
  • Providing input and design reviews into the procurement process 
  • Managing the contract specifications, drawings, and related documents 
  • Assisting with the collation of the O&M Health and Safety file 
  • Providing design & technical support to project management teams 
  • Review and offer advice on value engineering opportunities 
  • To work to the Company’s quality standards and performance criteria 
  • Co-operate on matters of health and safety and follow the training provided. Take reasonable care of personal and other people’s health and safety at all times 
  • Ensure that department operations are conducted in accordance with the Company’s Health & Safety policy.  Ensure suitable and sufficient risk assessments are conducted considering both staff and non-staff and introduce measures to reduce the risks to as low a level as reasonably practical 
  • Encourage and support your team in enhancing their performance by providing direction, regular feedback, and development opportunities 
  • Any other duties consistent with the role of Design Manager as may be required from time to time 


To be successful in the position of a Design Manager, you will need the following:

  • Experience working on Industrial/Logistics projects would be advantageous  
  • A degree in Design Management or similar (or currently undertaking qualification for trainee positions). 
  • Ambition and drive  
  • Self-motivation and pro-activity   
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written  
  • Good organisational skills  
  • The ability to meet strict deadlines  
  • Good negotiation skills  
  • The ability to work on your own initiative  
  • The ability to drive would be beneficial
